This past November marked the 33rd annual Gasshuku “Intensive Study Training Camp“. My Martial teacher, Mark Sentoshi Russo, holds this weekend long training event in Dade City, FL with attendees from across the country. Outdoor training, coupled with public demonstrations at the Tampa Quest Center, allow local and distant students to explore in-depth topics and display their current skill level. This years’ theme was the concept of utilizing core movement to subtly affect an opponent’s balance. As is tradition, the weekend culminates with a group picnic and fire ceremony. The importance of creating a strong, meaningful community is always stressed as we acknowledge our accomplishments and set our minds to future endeavors. This year was no exception…
